![]() Fred’s General Mercantile also has sleds for sale. You can bring your own plastic sleds or rent one from the Beech Meadows Ski Shop or White Wolf Lodge. Sleds aren’t provided on the Town Sledding Hill. The Town Sledding Hill requires the use of plastic sleds. There are several good dining choices there as well, along with the Beech Mountain Brewery, and some opportunities for shopping. ![]() Even if families don’t plan to ski, it’s worth a trip to the resort, to see the other great winter sports options for the whole family. The Beech Mountain Resort, which offers skiing, snowboarding, tubing and ice skating, is a mile and a half further along the Beech Mountain Parkway. Many families make a day of it on the mountain, sledding at the hill, then warming up and learning about other things do at the Visitor Center across the street, and eating a great meal at one of the town’s restaurants (three of which are walking distance from the hill). There’s no charge to use the hill, and it is a wonderful way to introduce kids to winter sports. Natural snow is enhanced by a snow gun when needed, so there’s plenty of good sledding to go around. Designed for kids ages 12 and under, parents or other responsible adults are allowed on sleds with preschoolers. The Town of Beech Mountain offers the only municipal sledding hill in the southeast. I really hope they get more organized, implement better safety standards, and def get a better non-racist staff!. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU VALUE SAFETY!!! I could keep going on all the crazy things I saw in my short 30 minutes on that tubing hill. ![]() I would really like to know if anyone had an incident afterwards, I’d be willing to bet on it as it was the most disorganized, dangerous resort I’ve been to. This happened on Februat approximately 6:20 pm. ![]() What’s more is that they did not close that tubing lane after this incident. And if it did and was then dangerous, why not shut down at least that lane? They would not give us any information, would not let us talk to someone in charge (of course more laughter) and ultimately, ended up shutting the window on me after I said “if this was your family, you wouldn’t be acting this way.” I have never encountered such a rude staff especially with a guest who was just knocked unconscious and bleeding out the head is standing there with his 2 young children balling their eyes out. They would not give us a refund and blamed changing weather conditions. When we got up we went to try and talk to someone else inside the ticketing window. After, they made them get back conveyor belt to go back up which is ridiculous. Perhaps this was discrimination as I would hope not all guests get this type of treatment. They look fine, they can walk.” REALLY?!? My family is Venezuelan but speak perfect English. When I asked what the procedure was this was the reply I got which was preceded by more laughter “What do you think, I got a doctorate or an X-ray machine in the back? If you need assistance you might wanna go to the hospital. The first aid staff treated us very very poorly. I myself had to ask for medical assistance. I had to figure out where my family was myself as to me they had disappeared by the time I got to the bottom of the tubing hill. The staff did not come to help, instead they laughed. My 6 year old niece thankfully got the least injured but still had a bruised back, bottom and legs. 1 broke their arm and sustained full body scratches and bruises. 2 sustained head injuries and 1 was knocked unconscious. 4 members of my family jumped the hill and FELL DOWN THE CLIFF. They have a couple of staff standing on the ledge of the hill that batt people down if possible which is 1) not safe for staff and 2) very poor methodology. There is a 20 ft hill at the bottom meant to stop the tubes with a steep cliff and trees over the hill.
